Substation Civil Site Designer - Remote, United States

Designs civil site plans and engineering packages for electric utility and telecommunications projects at Leidos. This remote role covers grading, drainage, permitting, and related substation site design work.

Description

  • Create and revise civil site plan drawings for substations
  • Produce grading, drainage, and stormwater management plans
  • Prepare erosion and sediment control plans that meet local and state requirements
  • Design roadway, access drive, and overall site layout plans
  • Complete earthwork grading and cut-and-fill balancing with Civil 3D or OpenRoads/MicroStation workflows
  • Conduct AutoTURN analyses for construction and maintenance vehicle access
  • Develop required utility layouts for storm sewer, sanitary, and water services
  • Assemble civil drawing packages suitable for utility and agency review
  • Help prepare permitting exhibits and support environmental and jurisdictional permit activities
  • Coordinate design information with surveyors, geotechnical and structural engineers, and substation electrical teams
  • Evaluate civil vendor drawings and incorporate required revisions
  • Support quantity takeoffs and production of project deliverables
  • Apply client standards, agency requirements, and established industry practices to each assignment

Requirements

  • Level 3: Associate degree or technical diploma in civil engineering technology, drafting technology, or a related discipline
  • Level 3: At least two years of civil site design experience using MicroStation
  • Level 4: Associate degree or technical diploma in civil engineering technology, drafting technology, or a related discipline
  • Level 4: At least three years of civil site design experience using MicroStation
  • Proficiency in MicroStation is required
  • Background developing civil site plans for utility, industrial, commercial, or municipal projects
  • Practical knowledge of grading design and earthwork calculations
  • Experience producing erosion and sediment control plans
  • Understanding of stormwater management principles and permitting requirements
  • Experience conducting AutoTURN vehicle turning analyses
  • Knowledge of site development permitting and agency coordination processes
  • Ability to interpret survey and geotechnical data
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Careful attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality deliverables
  • Electric utility substation project experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with utility client standards is preferred
  • Experience with HEC-RAS, Hydraflow, HydroCAD, or comparable hydrology software is preferred
  • Knowledge of SWPPP preparation and stormwater permitting requirements is preferred
  • Experience coordinating with local, county, and state permitting agencies is preferred
