Staff Software Engineer, Agentic AI — Chicago Onsite

Lead the design and delivery of scalable enterprise software, distributed systems, APIs, and agentic AI solutions at Vizient. Guide secure integrations, reusable AI frameworks, technical execution, and engineering standards.

Description

  • Own technical design and daily engineering delivery
  • Contribute directly across software development, testing, deployment, and production support
  • Create scalable enterprise applications, APIs, services, distributed systems, and AI-enabled solutions
  • Convert product requirements and architectural guidance into technical designs, implementation plans, and production-ready software
  • Build AI applications and agentic workflows with large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, enterprise data, and external tools
  • Create reusable software components, services, integration patterns, and frameworks
  • Use automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, observability, and practices that improve performance, reliability, and maintainability
  • Apply secure integration patterns, access controls, error handling, monitoring, and operational safeguards
  • Coach engineers and offer technical direction
  • Lead code and design reviews while advancing engineering standards across development teams
  • Create reusable AI capabilities for orchestration, model and tool integration, state management, evaluation, and observability
  • Work with Architecture, Security, and engineering teams to advance software and AI standards, reference architectures, and responsible AI practices

Requirements

  • Practical experience spanning software development, testing, deployment, and production support
  • Experience designing and building scalable enterprise applications, APIs, services, distributed systems, and AI-enabled solutions
  • Ability to turn product requirements and architectural guidance into technical designs, implementation plans, and production-ready software
  • Experience building AI applications and agentic workflows with large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, enterprise data, and external tools
  • Knowledge of automated testing, continuous integration and delivery, observability, performance, reliability, and maintainability
  • Knowledge of secure integration patterns, access controls, error handling, monitoring, and operational safeguards
  • Ability to mentor engineers, provide technical direction, lead code and design reviews, and advance engineering standards
  • Experience creating reusable AI capabilities for orchestration, model and tool integration, state management, evaluation, and observability
  • Ability to collaborate with Architecture, Security, and engineering teams
