Staff Software Architect – Data-Intensive Web Applications and Personalization (Brazil Remote)

Lead the architecture and delivery of Azure-based, data-intensive web applications for AB InBev’s global digital growth platforms. Own performant APIs, data systems, security, and production architecture.

Description

  • Lead system architecture and hands-on delivery for a data-intensive web product built on Microsoft Azure.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of services, APIs, the Next.js layer, integrations, security, and load behavior.
  • Design and deliver high-performance systems, coding critical paths from initial design through production.
  • Develop approaches for querying, processing, and presenting large data volumes, including modeling, SQL optimization, caching, pagination, aggregation, search, and asynchronous processing.
  • Deliver dashboards, reports, and data exploration capabilities using existing data platforms.
  • Select and document architectural patterns, including modular monoliths, microservices, synchronous systems, and event-driven designs.
  • Balance performance, consistency, security, cost, and operational complexity when making technical decisions.
  • Establish practices for authentication, authorization, observability, automated testing, code review, and continuous delivery.
  • Apply AI-assisted engineering practices within team development.
  • Collaborate with ingestion, pipeline, and data platform teams while owning the secure, performant delivery of application data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative discipline; a master’s degree or PhD is advantageous.
  • Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Software Architect, or comparable experience designing and delivering large-scale, high-performance web applications and backend systems.
  • Production-scale system design expertise spanning service boundaries, data flows, consistency, failure modes, and defensible architectural trade-offs.
  • Advanced hands-on Java experience, with Go and/or Python used where appropriate.
  • Working knowledge of TypeScript, React, and Next.js sufficient to shape and contribute to the web application.
  • Production experience with Microsoft Azure, API and integration design, and distributed systems, including queues, events, idempotency, consistency, resilience, and fault tolerance.
  • Strong SQL, data modeling, and query optimization skills, together with NoSQL, caching, and search experience focused on fast data-heavy interfaces and APIs.
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD, containers, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, and production troubleshooting using logs, metrics, and traces.
  • Additional experience with analytics or BI products, conversational interfaces, multi-tenant systems, Domain-Driven Design, feature flags, or progressive delivery is beneficial.
  • Ability to pair architectural judgment with implementation and remain actively involved in the codebase.
  • Pragmatic decision-making skills, including recognizing when a simpler design is sufficient.
  • Ability to communicate risks, decisions, and constraints clearly to technical and business audiences while improving team quality through example, review, and collaboration.
