Description

  • Design and advance reliable, highly scalable backend services.
  • Own architecture for complex initiatives spanning multiple engineering teams.
  • Define APIs, data models, event-driven workflows, and service boundaries.
  • Build platforms that support high request volumes and large datasets.
  • Develop asynchronous processing with queues, events, streams, and background workers.
  • Guide technology decisions across relational and NoSQL databases, search, caching, and messaging systems.
  • Find performance constraints across applications, databases, queues, and infrastructure.
  • Improve API latency, throughput, resource efficiency, and overall scalability.
  • Build for graceful degradation, retries, idempotency, recovery, and fault tolerance.
  • Establish reliable patterns for data consistency and distributed workflows.
  • Lead database and data-access performance improvements.
  • Develop caching, indexing, partitioning, sharding, and retention approaches.
  • Strengthen observability with metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, and actionable alerts.
  • Investigate major production incidents and implement lasting corrective measures.
  • Set engineering standards for reliability, scalability, testing, security, and maintainability.
  • Evaluate architecture proposals and high-impact code changes across teams.
  • Address systemic technical debt through practical modernization efforts.
  • Work with Product and Engineering leaders to balance technical and business priorities.
  • Coach senior engineers and expand technical ownership across teams.
  • Stay hands-on by contributing code to critical systems and initiatives.

Requirements

  • At least eight years of software engineering experience, including substantial work on large-scale backend systems.
  • Proficiency in one or more backend languages, such as Node.js/TypeScript, Go, or Java.
  • Solid knowledge of distributed systems and microservice architecture.
  • Advanced understanding of API design and service-to-service communication.
  • Strong command of relational and NoSQL database technologies.
  • Experience designing systems for large datasets and heavy request volumes.
  • Knowledge of concurrency, asynchronous processing, queues, and event-driven architectures.
  • Experience implementing caching and distributed caching strategies.
  • Understanding of indexing, query optimization, transactions, and data consistency.
  • Experience building reliable systems with retries, idempotency, timeouts, rate limiting, and failure recovery.
  • Ability to evaluate scalability, availability, consistency, and performance trade-offs.
  • Experience diagnosing complex production problems through metrics, logs, and distributed tracing.
  • Strong system design and architectural judgment.
  • Track record of leading technically demanding work across multiple engineers or teams.
