Software Engineering Manager, Vehicle Data Platform – General Motors, Markham

Lead General Motors’ vehicle data platform engineering across Android, Linux, and QNX in a hybrid Markham role. Guide ECU-to-cloud software delivery, architecture, reliability, and production operations.

Description

  • Build and support a software engineering team through hiring, goal setting, feedback, performance management, and career development.
  • Direct delivery of control-plane, data-plane, SDK, and unified logging infrastructure across Android, Linux, and QNX, from planning through release and field support.
  • Establish technical direction and make architecture and design decisions with the engineering team.
  • Contribute to design activities, code reviews, test-case reviews, and prototypes.
  • Apply production ECU standards for reliability, performance, data privacy, and efficient resource usage.
  • Develop scalable engineering practices covering unit and integration testing, documentation, and release readiness.
  • Create roadmaps with application teams and product stakeholders that reflect fleet data needs.
  • Coordinate with platform, cloud, DevOps, cybersecurity, and privacy teams on rollouts, integrations, adoption, alignment, and data governance.
  • Communicate delivery status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership and partner teams.
  • Maintain operational ownership through health metrics, incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Coach engineers and develop future technical leads.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least six years of software development or systems engineering experience involving Android, Linux, and/or QNX.
  • At least two years of experience managing software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and/or Java or Kotlin for Android, plus experience with platform-level integrations.
  • Experience delivering software to production ECUs or other resource-constrained devices with limited CPU, memory, storage, and bandwidth.
  • Background in control-plane or fleet-management software, data collection and transfer pipelines, logging or telemetry systems, or SDKs and libraries used by other teams.
  • Experience designing telemetry that supports operational visibility and remote control at fleet scale.
  • Experience scaling data flows from ECUs to the cloud.
  • Demonstrated delivery of critical software subject to reliability, performance, and data-privacy requirements.
  • Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams, including groups outside your reporting line.
  • Strong technical communication and design-documentation skills, with the ability to present status, risks, and tradeoffs to leadership.
  • Must not require General Motors immigration sponsorship now or in the future.
