Software Engineer, Connectivity Cloud (Hybrid)

Develop Java and Kotlin backend microservices for an electric-vehicle connectivity platform at Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies. Design scalable cloud systems using AWS, Kubernetes, REST, and gRPC.

Description

  • Develop, optimize, and support reliable distributed microservices from initial prototype through production.
  • Use automation to remove delivery bottlenecks, improve deployment pipelines, and maintain consistent releases.
  • Create and maintain secure, high-performance REST and gRPC APIs for internal services and external users.
  • Apply data serialization technologies, including Protocol Buffers (Protobuf).
  • Assess backend feasibility and tune applications for optimal performance.
  • Build and support high-throughput asynchronous processing workflows.
  • Promote engineering best practices through thorough code reviews and comprehensive testing.
  • Conduct structured root-cause investigations to resolve technical issues.
  • Develop cloud-native solutions using Kubernetes-managed workloads and event-driven serverless functions.
  • Create resilient microservices that process complex, high-volume data streams at scale.
  • Partner with the Connectivity team at Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies on software, cloud, and connectivity solutions for electric vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • At least three years of professional backend development experience.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating work on complex, scalable cloud services.
  • Experience deploying backend services with AWS Lambda and Kubernetes.
  • Experience packaging applications with Docker.
  • Familiarity with ArgoCD and Helm is advantageous.
  • Strong command of Java and Kotlin.
  • Experience using TypeScript in backend or serverless environments is advantageous.
  • Practical AWS experience with EC2, Lambda, MSK, ElastiCache, DynamoDB, Secrets Manager, and Parameter Store.
  • Thorough understanding of asynchronous programming, Kafka, SQS, NATS, message queues, and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience with DynamoDB and ElastiCache for NoSQL data storage and caching.
  • Ability to assess trade-offs between SQL and non-relational data solutions.
  • Strong Git skills for version control and team collaboration.
  • Experience troubleshooting and monitoring production systems with Datadog and Amazon CloudWatch.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.
