Software Development Manager, BrightOrder (Remote in Canada)

Lead software development for BrightOrder’s fleet management SaaS platforms, combining AWS architecture and hands-on coding with delivery ownership. Grow the engineering team while guiding reliable operations and product integrations.

Description

  • Lead and develop the software engineering team, supporting strong performance and career growth.
  • Manage delivery plans, sprint execution, and software releases.
  • Work with Product and other stakeholders to shape the roadmap and turn requirements into actionable plans.
  • Make architecture decisions, uphold code quality, and promote sound engineering practices.
  • Maintain production reliability, respond to incidents, and improve operational processes.
  • Contribute to backend and frontend development, with a focus on AWS architecture and integrations.
  • Develop and improve the EMDECS and emdecs one fleet management platforms.
  • Deliver production-ready code and review contributions from other developers.
  • Design scalable AWS cloud solutions and connect them with GoodData and HubSpot.
  • Set technical roadmaps that support business goals.
  • Work with Product, CX, and leadership to address customer needs.
  • Report to the VP of Operations & Customer Experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing and coaching software engineers.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience delivering production code.
  • Practical experience with AWS services, including EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and CloudWatch.
  • Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
  • Backend development experience with .NET or Node.js.
  • Frontend development experience with React and TypeScript.
  • Experience leading Agile or Scrum delivery, including sprint execution and release management.
  • Experience overseeing production operations, incident response, and reliability practices.
  • Experience working with Product stakeholders on roadmaps and requirements.
  • Experience in a B2B SaaS product environment.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
  • Preferred: Government of Canada security clearance.
  • Preferred: English and French bilingualism.
  • Preferred: Experience with fleet management, telematics, or ELD software.
  • Familiarity with OBD-II and CAN bus.
  • Familiarity with GPS data streams and real-time event processing.
  • Familiarity with ELD compliance standards, including FMCSA in North America and DVSA in the UK.
  • Familiarity with GoodData or comparable embedded business intelligence tools.
  • Familiarity with event-driven data pipelines such as Kafka.
  • Familiarity with BigQuery, Redshift, or RDS.
  • Familiarity with the HubSpot, Stripe, and GoCardless APIs.
  • Knowledge of webhook and event-driven design patterns.
  • Knowledge of third-party integration architecture and security best practices.
  • Familiarity with GitHub Actions, CodePipeline, or equivalent tools.
  • Knowledge of automated testing, deployment pipelines, and release management.
