Senior Water and Wastewater Engineer

Lead water, wastewater, and groundwater infrastructure projects for a global consulting engineering firm. Design treatment, distribution, reuse, and utility systems.

Description

  • Lead water, wastewater, and groundwater projects from planning through delivery
  • Plan, design, construct, and oversee water resources and municipal utility infrastructure
  • Assess and design intake structures, surface and groundwater treatment facilities, water reuse systems, storage, pumping, and transmission and distribution projects
  • Develop master plans, grant applications, and loan documentation
  • Engage with professional organizations and create and present papers and presentations for target markets
  • Apply the One Water framework in project planning and delivery
  • Incorporate smart water systems, process automation, and machine learning into water production and distribution designs
  • Use AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and other engineering design software
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical, I&C, structural, and CAD specialists to prepare plans and specifications
  • Support business development efforts and responses to RFPs and RFQs
  • Provide marketing, technical leadership, procurement, and project execution support
  • Build and sustain long-term client relationships
  • Support clients with permitting, property acquisition, and stakeholder engagement
  • Work with multidisciplinary design teams
  • Deliver projects on schedule and within budget
  • Lead, manage, and mentor staff

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in civil, mechanical, chemical, or environmental engineering
  • At least 10 years of relevant professional experience
  • Professional Engineer license; an Illinois PE license is preferred, or candidates must be able to obtain one within six months of hire
  • Water and wastewater professional connections across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and/or Wisconsin
  • Regional knowledge of water supply, treatment, storage, and/or distribution
  • Active involvement in professional organizations
  • Strong verbal communication, computer, and organizational abilities
  • Excellent technical writing skills
  • Strong client relationship management skills
  • Excellent leadership of technical design teams
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: water distribution, transmission, and storage; water and wastewater treatment; wastewater conveyance and peak-weather-flow infrastructure; water reuse; pump stations; hydraulic modeling; asset management; risk and resiliency consulting and design; or smart water system planning, design, and implementation
