Senior System Protection Engineer: Transmission Line at Qualus, Nevada Remote

Senior protection engineer responsible for relay coordination, protection and control design, and substation automation for Qualus utility projects. The role also addresses complex power-system protection issues and supports construction and customer delivery.

Description

  • Conduct relay coordination analyses and establish settings for substation projects
  • Lead the development of Qualus's system protection philosophy
  • Design protection, control, and substation automation schemes
  • Specify relays and related equipment, including automation methods and complex remedial action schemes
  • Conduct studies and prepare reports for executive management and internal and external customers
  • Develop advanced solutions for complex protection challenges, including power-system disturbance analysis
  • Maintain quality control and customer service across assigned projects
  • Support construction activities and coordinate with construction teams
  • Gather and incorporate customer feedback
  • Ensure adherence to applicable policies, codes, regulations, and NERC/WECC requirements
  • Carry out other related responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • Hold an engineering degree from an accredited college or university plus 8 years of industry experience and a Professional Engineer (PE) license, or 10 years of industry experience without a PE license
  • Demonstrate knowledge of electric utility system protection principles
  • Understand the protection philosophies used across the company
  • Apply appropriate computer modeling methods to technical analyses
  • Bring strong time management, organizational, communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Understand and comply with NERC/WECC requirements, policies, codes, and regulations
