Senior Structural Engineer, Data Centers

Lead structural design for hyperscale and colocation data centers at AECOM, a global infrastructure consulting firm. Develop resilient, sustainable concrete and steel solutions.

Description

  • Lead structural design and analysis for hyperscale and colocation data center buildings.
  • Prepare design documents for tilt-up concrete panels, precast structures, steel framing, and deep and shallow foundations.
  • Coordinate design work with architecture, civil, MEP, and construction teams.
  • Review construction documents, specifications, and calculations for quality, code compliance, and technical rigor.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers and provide technical guidance.
  • Resolve technical questions and design clarifications with clients, contractors, and review authorities.
  • Contribute to business development, proposals, and conceptual structural designs for prospective projects.
  • Travel occasionally for client meetings, site visits, project milestones, onsite collaboration, and other essential business activities.
  • Collaborate with AECOM teams worldwide on major data center projects for global clients.
  • Work in a hands-on, client-facing role with potential for career advancement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering and at least 8 years of relevant building structural design and analysis experience, or equivalent experience and/or education.
  • Current U.S. Professional Engineer (PE or SE) license.
  • Experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, or large logistics or industrial facilities.
  • Experience with BIM ACC (Revit), ETABS, RISA, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE, or similar tools.
  • Experience with precast concrete systems, steel design, seismic design, and foundation systems.
  • Demonstrated experience using low embodied-carbon materials and sustainable structural design methods.
  • At least 3 years of data center facility experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with data center design standards and structural resilience requirements preferred.
  • LEED or Envision credentials, or active leadership in SE 2050 implementation, preferred.
  • Expertise in low embodied-carbon materials, sustainable structural systems, and emerging industry practices preferred.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across locations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply national and local building codes.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States; U.S. employment authorization sponsorship is unavailable now and in the future.
