Senior Software Engineer - Java, Spring, Kafka & Cassandra | Walmart

Build high-throughput Java, Spring, Kafka, and Cassandra systems for Walmart’s global retail technology platform. Support eCommerce experiences across web, mobile, and in-store channels.

Description

  • Deliver scoped features and models within collaborative engineering teams
  • Develop clean, efficient, reliable software across multiple programming languages
  • Manage the complete software development lifecycle, including CI/CD and automated testing
  • Incorporate AI and machine learning components to improve software capabilities and development practices
  • Contribute to solution design and assess technical trade-offs
  • Perform code reviews, debugging, and defect management
  • Partner across functions to convert business needs into technical requirements and measurable results
  • Track application performance and drive ongoing improvement through proactive testing and observability
  • Engineer scalable, secure, maintainable, high-throughput, low-latency systems for Walmart’s web, mobile, and in-store eCommerce platforms

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related discipline plus three years of software engineering experience, or five years of experience in software engineering or a related area
  • Demonstrated proficiency in object-oriented programming and documentation-driven coding practices
  • Experience delivering defined features and managing the full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD and automated testing
  • Proficiency with debugging, code reviews, and continuous development practices
  • Ability to design scalable, secure, maintainable software solutions
  • Experience incorporating AI and machine learning components and using generative AI tools
  • At least three years of professional Java experience
  • Strong working knowledge of the Spring Framework
  • Knowledge of high-throughput, event-driven architectures using Kafka and Cassandra
  • Sound technical judgment and effective cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, cybersecurity project leadership experience, Cisco certification, and knowledge of WCAG 2.2 AA, assistive technologies, and accessibility practices
