Senior Scala Software Engineer – Europe Remote
Join Zartis as a senior Scala engineer developing GraphQL APIs and event gateways for retail energy platforms. The role also covers Kubernetes deployments, CI/CD, and infrastructure automation.
Description
- Build and maintain Scala-based core products, including a GraphQL API and event gateway.
- Handle discovery and spike work, reduce technical debt, and deliver core engineering tickets.
- Contribute to agile ceremonies such as weekly planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
- Work with the broader engineering community on platform health reviews, post-mortems, and shared-service improvements.
- Use Infrastructure as Code, including Terraform, to manage Kubernetes deployments.
- Join the API Platform team in delivering and supporting mission-critical components for a retail energy platform.
- Create a high-performance GraphQL API and event gateway that provide consistent, low-latency data access for global energy clients.
Requirements
- At least seven years of professional experience in backend software development.
- Strong professional experience developing with Scala.
- Demonstrated experience building CI/CD pipelines and using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
- Practical experience with GraphQL and NoSQL databases, including DynamoDB.
- A record of proactively and independently resolving complex technical problems.
- Experience with pair programming and peer review practices.
- Kafka and Avro experience for event-driven architectures is advantageous.
- Familiarity with AWS services and monitoring tools is advantageous.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes-hosted environments is advantageous.
- Awareness of SRE practices, including disaster recovery and platform health monitoring, is advantageous.
- Experience with software design, service architecture, or technical options analysis is advantageous.
