Description

  • Build and maintain scalable Ruby on Rails backend applications.
  • Partner with product managers and engineering colleagues to turn requirements into technical solutions.
  • Plan integrations, break down development work, and estimate effort.
  • Create features and improve existing application capabilities.
  • Write clean, efficient, maintainable, well-tested production code.
  • Contribute to pull requests, peer reviews, and software testing.
  • Diagnose application issues and strengthen performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Take part in architecture discussions, technical decisions, and product roadmap planning.
  • Lead complex backend features from requirements through deployment.
  • Find and remove technical bottlenecks as demand increases.
  • Evaluate technologies, frameworks, and development approaches.
  • Work with distributed engineering, infrastructure, SRE, and product teams.
  • Improve development processes, code quality, and system architecture.

Requirements

  • At least five years of commercial experience as a backend or full-stack software engineer.
  • Recent, hands-on experience building and maintaining production applications with Ruby on Rails.
  • Ability to independently design, build, and deliver complex backend features.
  • Experience with applications serving thousands or more monthly active users.
  • Strong knowledge of scalable backend architecture, application performance, and system reliability.
  • Experience delivering software through the full lifecycle, from requirements analysis and implementation to testing and production deployment.
  • Background in a technology startup, scale-up, or similarly fast-paced agile environment.
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities, meet deadlines, and uphold strong engineering standards.
  • Sound grounding in software engineering principles, clean code, and automated testing.
  • Experience reviewing code and collaborating across development teams.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to technical problems.
  • Ability to work independently, own technical deliverables, and contribute to engineering decisions.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Experience working effectively with international, fully remote teams.
  • Based in Europe and able to overlap with CET by up to three hours.
