Senior Renewable Studies Engineer – NERC Compliance

Lead NERC compliance programs and renewable power-system studies for NEI Electric Power Engineering. Develop audit-ready controls, reports, and client-specific compliance plans.

Description

  • Lead NERC compliance programs for renewable and electric power clients
  • Design compliance processes, controls, documentation, and improvement plans
  • Provide technical and regulatory guidance on NERC Reliability Standards
  • Support inverter-based resource compliance across registration, performance, modeling, validation, and readiness activities
  • Assess reliability requirements for large computational loads and create client-specific compliance plans and gap assessments
  • Build internal controls, evidence-management methods, and audit-readiness documentation
  • Produce compliance policies, procedures, technical reports, evidence packages, and training materials
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, project management, information technology, and external partners
  • Monitor updates to NERC standards, FERC requirements, Regional Entity expectations, and grid-reliability practices
  • Meet with clients virtually and in person to explain requirements, present findings, and recommend actions
  • Create and deliver presentations, workshops, and training sessions
  • Apply digital tools, automation, and data analytics to strengthen compliance tracking and reporting
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to NEI standards, templates, and best practices
  • Uphold ethical, professional, and safety standards

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or power systems from an accredited four-year college or university
  • At least 5 years of progressive experience in NERC compliance program management, audit readiness, power-system compliance, or a related field
  • Proficiency in at least two of PSS/E, PSLF, PSCAD, or TSAT
  • Experience with relay protection and settings development
  • Strong working knowledge of NERC Reliability Standards, including PRC, FAC, MOD, VAR, CIP, TOP, EOP, or related obligations
  • Experience creating or enhancing compliance programs, internal controls, evidence-management processes, policies, or procedures
  • Experience supporting NERC or Regional Entity audits, spot checks, self-certifications, data requests, or other regulatory interactions
  • Ability to interpret complex regulatory and technical requirements and convert them into practical actions
  • Knowledge of risk-based compliance methods, gap assessments, corrective-action planning, and compliance-management practices
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines, lead workstreams, mentor colleagues, and build client relationships
  • Current authorization to work full time in the United States
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Professional Engineering licensure, NERC-Certified System Operator certification, CRCM, or another relevant certification or license preferred
  • Familiarity with PowerFactory, ETAP, or ASPEN preferred
  • Experience with compliance-management platforms, workflow automation, dashboards, or data analytics preferred
