Senior Python and Databricks Developer at Zurich Insurance in Bratislava

Build Python and Databricks data products, ETL pipelines, APIs, and modelling workflows for Zurich Insurance’s risk management platform. Help improve the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical data solutions.

Description

  • Create, deploy, and maintain Python data products, services, and applications
  • Build dependable Databricks ETL pipelines for risk, exposure, and modelling data
  • Convert complex business rules and calculation logic into clear, tested, maintainable code
  • Develop APIs and integration services for real-time, near-real-time, and batch processing
  • Design and optimise data models, Delta tables, and Lakehouse workflows
  • Increase the performance, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency of pipelines and services
  • Introduce data validation, monitoring, logging, alerting, and automated testing
  • Investigate complex data and production incidents, determine root causes, and implement lasting fixes
  • Use Git, CI/CD, code reviews, and technical documentation as part of sound software engineering practice
  • Collaborate with data engineers, architects, technology teams, and business stakeholders
  • Share expertise and create reusable components that reduce reliance on individual team members

Requirements

  • Substantial professional experience developing production-ready Python solutions
  • Practical, hands-on experience with Databricks
  • Background building ETL or ELT pipelines, data applications, or data products
  • Strong SQL skills and experience handling structured data
  • Experience with Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and Lakehouse architecture
  • Ability to independently assess ambiguous or complex requirements and develop practical solutions
  • Solid knowledge of software development practices, including Git, CI/CD, automated testing, and DevOps
  • Experience improving the performance, reliability, and maintainability of data solutions
  • Strong problem-solving ability, ownership, and sound technical judgement
  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
  • Experience with Pandas, NumPy, and geospatial libraries such as GeoPandas, Shapely, or H3
  • Experience using Azure services such as Azure Storage, Azure Functions, and Azure API Management
  • Knowledge of Databricks Workflows, MLflow, Model Serving, or Feature Serving
  • Familiarity with data-quality frameworks, observability, and production support
  • Experience in catastrophe modelling, exposure management, insurance, or financial services
