Senior Process Engineer – Wastewater Asset Optimisation (Hybrid, Manchester)

Lead wastewater asset optimisation studies for Costain’s UK consultancy team. Develop practical process solutions and guide delivery across water-sector programmes.

Description

  • Support water-sector frameworks by defining and shaping projects and programmes
  • Manage asset optimisation projects and lead teams developing process improvement solutions
  • Lead optimisation studies and solution triage while managing quality, budget and schedule
  • Develop process optimisation initiatives and solutions at site and programme level
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic consultancy to clients and joint venture partners
  • Work with business development, work-winning and marketing teams to develop and tender opportunities
  • Review process design outputs, including calculations, drawings, reports, presentations and proposals
  • Manage, mentor and develop junior engineers
  • Build team capability and service delivery across AMP frameworks
  • Lead troubleshooting activities and implement effective solutions

Requirements

  • Degree qualification in a process-related discipline
  • Significant UK experience designing, operating and optimising wastewater treatment plants
  • Experience with large activated sludge plant design and/or membrane treatment processes
  • Knowledge of the UK water utility asset lifecycle process
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in an engineering consultancy or contracting design environment, together with operational utility experience
  • Ability to independently lead teams and projects
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills when working with senior colleagues
  • Availability for site visits, design reviews and client meetings approximately 2–3 days per week as required
  • Chartered Engineer status and membership of a relevant institution such as CIWEM or IChemE are desirable
  • Postgraduate qualification is desirable
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the UK regulatory environment is desirable
  • Experience across the full project lifecycle, from scoping and outline design through detailed design, construction support, commissioning and handover, is desirable
  • Process engineering definition experience covering mass balances, data analysis, design calculations, technology selection, equipment and package datasheets, process flow diagrams, process control philosophies and P&IDs is desirable
  • Commercial awareness and business development capability are desirable
  • Driving is required
  • Security clearance is required
