Senior Principal Autonomy Engineer — Shield AI (Remote, U.S.)

Lead autonomy architecture and advanced radar and RF sensing algorithms at Shield AI. Drive capabilities from simulation and integration through testing and field deployment for defense systems.

Description

  • Set the technical direction, architecture, and roadmap for autonomy systems integrating RF sensing, perception, state estimation, sensor fusion, decision logic, guidance, navigation, and vehicle control
  • Advance sophisticated radar and RF signal-processing algorithms from development through maturity
  • Act as the senior technical authority for autonomy and RF system performance
  • Direct trade studies, requirements decisions, architecture and algorithm reviews, and resolution of technical risks
  • Define and govern end-to-end simulation, modeling, and verification methods
  • Coordinate integration across autonomy, software, RF hardware, avionics, embedded computing, vehicle systems, flight sciences, systems engineering, test, and manufacturing
  • Convert mission and vehicle needs into requirements, performance budgets, interface definitions, algorithm specifications, verification plans, and measurable success criteria
  • Guide real-time algorithm development in MATLAB, Python, C, C++, and DSP environments
  • Manage technical relationships with customers, partners, suppliers, and executive stakeholders
  • Develop engineers, set technical standards, recruit specialized talent, and strengthen algorithm development, systems engineering, modeling, verification, and test practices
  • Shape investment decisions, technical proposals, and growth initiatives
  • Define differentiated autonomy and RF capabilities and contribute to customer-facing technical discussions

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, or a related technical discipline
  • At least 15 years of professional experience in autonomy, radar, RF sensing, signal processing, guidance and navigation, sensor fusion, aerospace systems, robotics, or another comparable complex technical field
  • Proven technical leadership across the architecture, development, integration, and fielding of advanced autonomous, RF sensing, radar, electronic warfare, avionics, aerospace, or defense systems
  • Expertise in radar and RF signal processing, including waveform design, adaptive processing, beamforming, direction finding, target detection and tracking, clutter modeling, interference mitigation, and performance evaluation
  • Experience developing and validating algorithms with high-fidelity end-to-end simulation, including sensor and RF environment models, vehicle dynamics, six-degree-of-freedom simulation, and operationally representative scenarios
  • Ability to turn mission needs into system and subsystem requirements, performance allocations, interface definitions, algorithm specifications, verification plans, and test objectives
  • Extensive hands-on experience with MATLAB and Python, along with experience moving algorithms into C, C++, real-time DSP, embedded computing, or hardware-accelerated environments
  • Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers, conducting design reviews, and resolving complex cross-functional engineering challenges
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence senior technical and program leaders, external customers, and executives
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance
  • Master’s degree or PhD in a related technical field preferred
  • Active U.S. Secret or higher security clearance preferred
