Senior Landscape Architect - Toronto Hybrid

Lead sustainable landscape architecture design and delivery for GHD’s transport, ecological, and urban projects. Mentor teams and coordinate multidisciplinary work from concept through construction.

Description

  • Partner with architecture, engineering, environmental, and land development teams to deliver landscape solutions aligned with client briefs
  • Lead the landscape architecture scope across projects of varying scales
  • Direct design responses to client requirements
  • Coordinate with landscape architects, designers, and professionals from multiple disciplines
  • Manage day-to-day landscape architecture project delivery against schedule and budget objectives
  • Supervise, support, and mentor developing team members while sharing knowledge
  • Assign work, schedule resources, and coordinate team workflows
  • Apply client, industry, and GHD standards, guidelines, codes, and best practices
  • Build collaborative relationships across GHD and with clients and external stakeholders
  • Support and prepare fee proposals
  • Create practical designs and nature-based solutions
  • Use computer-aided design, 3D modelling, rendering, graphic design, and landscape information modelling software

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of professional landscape architecture experience
  • At least five years as a full OALA member
  • Full Ontario Association of Landscape Architects membership with seal
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in landscape architecture, preferably from a LAAC- or LAAB-accredited program in Canada or the United States
  • Strong spoken, written, and reading English skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, management, and delegation experience
  • Senior-level judgment in resolving complex landscape architecture challenges
  • Strong knowledge of site analysis and landscape design
  • Experience with site planning and urban planning
  • Knowledge of landscape architecture history and theory, sustainable design, construction technology, design precedents, horticulture, urban design, planning approvals, building codes, accessibility, and Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action
  • Experience with proposal writing, fee calculations, and scheduling
  • Ability to research, review, and synthesize background information
  • Hand-sketching ability using pencil, marker, and/or stylus
  • Experience developing graphic materials and presentations
  • Planting design experience using Ontario native plants, plus aquatic design experience
  • Experience with public realm design, detailing, and construction
  • Experience developing ecological restoration planting designs
  • Experience preparing, reviewing, and tendering construction drawings and specifications
  • Contract administration experience
  • Experience securing municipal development approvals
  • Experience with sustainable guidelines, including Sustainable Sites, LEED, and Toronto Green Standard
  • Experience producing accessible designs and details under the OBC and AODA
  • Experience with quantity takeoffs and cost estimating
  • Experience designing parks, playgrounds, spray pads, skate stops, sports fields, trails, cycling infrastructure, and planting
  • Experience with irrigation design and specifications
  • Experience with low-impact development design
  • Experience with natural area conservation and restoration design
  • Experience designing transit facilities
  • Experience with mixed-use and transit-oriented development
  • Experience with Integrated Design Process, BIM, and Information Management processes
  • Experience using Revit, Civil 3D, SketchUp, Navisworks, Autodesk Construction Cloud, and Bentley ProjectWise
  • Expertise in AutoCAD, Land/FX, and Bentley MicroStation
  • Experience using Photoshop, Enscape, and Lumion
  • Experience using Illustrator and After Effects
  • Experience with Bluebeam
  • Experience using AI software such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Midjourney
  • Experience with Pathfinder and Forma
  • CPTED certification
  • MTO road and highway design experience is considered an asset
