Senior Editor - American Alpine Club, Remote Colorado

Senior Editor supporting the American Alpine Journal’s 2027 edition and related digital channels. The role covers climbing and expedition reporting, editing, research, fact-checking, and content production for the American Alpine Club.

Description

  • Report, edit, and verify expedition coverage
  • Edit long-form work with volunteer climbers and the Editor-in-Chief
  • Research content for the American Alpine Journal, Cutting Edge podcast, and other AAJ channels
  • Source and prepare publication photos and captions
  • Upload and revise stories for online publication
  • Handle other duties assigned by the AAJ Editor-in-Chief
  • Support planning, editing, and production of the 2027 edition, AAJ website, The Line e-newsletter, and other channels

Requirements

  • Extensive climbing experience and strong knowledge of alpinism and mountaineering
  • Alignment with the AAC mission and ability to demonstrate its core values
  • Substantial knowledge of and enthusiasm for climbing history
  • Demonstrated experience reporting and editing climbing or comparable specialist news
  • Proven ability to prepare long-form articles for publication
  • Experience planning and laying out print publications with an art director
  • Strong organization and time management, including the ability to prioritize work across multiple deadlines
  • Collaborative approach with the flexibility to incorporate feedback and constructive criticism
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for working across teams, departments, contractors, and climbers, including those with limited English proficiency
  • Comfort working to and meeting deadlines
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and InDesign, as well as G Suite and Slack
