Senior COBOL Developer (Micro Focus) at Conduent — Remote US
Conduent is hiring a senior Micro Focus COBOL Developer to maintain and enhance mission-critical Point-of-Sale and batch-processing systems. The role uses COBOL, CICS, JCL, Oracle, Linux, testing, troubleshooting, and modernization practices.
Description
- Design, develop, implement, maintain, and enhance systems supporting Point-of-Sale and batch-processing operations
- Review RFPs and business requirements while coordinating with internal teams and clients
- Contribute to solution architecture, technical documentation, and development estimates
- Build and unit test software solutions
- Recommend testing approaches and support thorough testing of system changes and enhancements
- Troubleshoot, investigate, resolve, and document complex application and production incidents
- Implement measures that reduce system disruptions and help prevent outages
- Provide on-call production support when required
- Explain technical problems and recommend suitable solutions to clients and internal teams
- Help prepare functional and technical specifications
- Present system requirements, designs, and proposed solutions to stakeholders
- Provide management with regular development status reports
- Maintain and update system documentation, reports, and technical exhibits
- Support system upgrades and application modernization initiatives
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience with Micro Focus COBOL, CICS, JCL, and Oracle in a Linux environment
- Advanced hands-on experience with Micro Focus COBOL, Oracle 10g/11g, CICS, and JCL
- Strong SQL capabilities, including writing complex queries
- Practical experience using the Micro Focus Net Express IDE
- Experience working in a Red Hat Linux environment
- Experience developing or supporting a Pharmacy Benefit Management system
- Experience with production support processes and system monitoring
- Willingness to work morning or afternoon shifts according to business requirements
- Working knowledge of mainframe environments and technologies
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability for resolving complex technical issues
- Ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly
- At least 3 years of professional experience based in the United States
- Preferred experience with IBM COBOL, ACUCOBOL, or other COBOL environments
- Preferred familiarity with ANSI-compliant databases
- Preferred experience using SQL across relational database platforms
