Senior Backend Engineer (Go) - Xsolla, Russia Remote

Build and operate reliable Go services and APIs for Xsolla’s global video-game commerce platform. Own distributed systems, databases, event-driven workflows, observability, and production support.

Description

  • Create and maintain backend services and APIs
  • Contribute to system architecture and technical design decisions
  • Prepare and review technical design documentation
  • Deliver clean, maintainable code supported by unit and integration tests
  • Improve database schemas and query performance for reliable operation under load
  • Develop asynchronous and event-driven workflows with message brokers
  • Monitor, diagnose, and enhance production services
  • Support incident response activities and post-incident reviews
  • Help maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and engineering standards
  • Review code and support the development of Middle and Junior engineers
  • Work with Product, Design, Frontend, QA, and DevOps to ship complete features
  • Keep API and technical documentation accurate and accessible
  • Take ownership of services from design and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and on-call support

Requirements

  • At least five years of commercial backend development experience
  • Advanced Go skills, including idiomatic implementation, concurrency patterns, and performance profiling
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design, indexing, query tuning, and migrations
  • Hands-on experience with Redis or a comparable caching system
  • Experience building REST APIs; gRPC experience is advantageous
  • Experience documenting APIs with OpenAPI or Swagger
  • Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed-systems trade-offs
  • Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS, or similar brokers and event-driven design
  • Experience using Docker and familiarity with Kubernetes fundamentals
  • Proficiency with Git and CI/CD workflows
  • Strong background in automated unit and integration testing
  • Knowledge of application security fundamentals, including OWASP Top 10, secret and user-data protection, and authentication and authorization basics
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Preferred: experience with Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/Graylog, OpenTelemetry, or similar observability tools
  • Preferred: experience supporting high-load systems and conducting performance profiling
  • Preferred: experience with GCP, AWS, or Azure and infrastructure-as-code
  • Preferred: experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Preferred: experience leading technical initiatives or mentoring engineers
  • Preferred: experience in gaming, e-commerce, fintech, or payments
  • Preferred: current practical experience with AI tools such as Claude, Copilot, or Cursor
