Senior Backend Engineer Amsterdam Hybrid

Build Python API infrastructure for myTomorrows’ health tech platform, developing secure and scalable services that help broaden patient access to treatments.

Description

  • Build and maintain scalable, dependable backend systems and infrastructure
  • Create and support microservices that provide platform capabilities to internal and external users
  • Partner with engineering and QA teams to maintain availability, scalability, and security
  • Work with DevOps Engineers on continuous delivery and deployment practices
  • Drive improvements to platform architecture and functionality
  • Create and maintain system and process documentation
  • Coach and develop junior backend engineers
  • Stay informed about relevant technologies and industry developments
  • Own two to three domain APIs or services, including their contracts and SLAs
  • Implement API-first development practices with OpenAPI, FastAPI, and Pydantic
  • Deliver API capabilities across design, implementation, testing, and documentation
  • Refine validation, error handling, pagination, idempotency, versioning, and contract testing
  • Enhance observability through metrics, logging, tracing, and SLIs/SLOs
  • Apply controlled MySQL changes through SQLAlchemy migrations and improve query performance
  • Contribute to data access approaches using DynamoDB or Neo4j
  • Improve API protection with authentication, authorization, scoped tokens, least-privilege access, secrets management, and rate limiting
  • Produce API documentation and examples while sharing expertise with junior engineers

Requirements

  • Live within commuting distance of the Amsterdam office
  • Currently reside in the Netherlands; relocation support is not available
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python
  • At least four years of relevant experience
  • Experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform
  • Experience using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Strong problem-solving ability
  • Comfort working independently and collaboratively
  • Effective communicator with stakeholders across the organization
  • Excellent written and spoken English
