Senior Backend Developer (Java/Kotlin) – Berlin Hybrid

Join Snowprint Studios to build and operate Java/Kotlin backend systems and AWS infrastructure for the live Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus game. The role covers feature ownership, cloud operations, troubleshooting, and on-call support.

Description

  • Build backend features for Warhammer 40,000: Tacticus
  • Own backend systems across planning, technical design, development, testing, and live operations
  • Enhance and maintain systems supporting a growing live game
  • Help manage and improve the AWS cloud environment
  • Create, maintain, and evolve game systems with infrastructure-as-code
  • Work with security and compliance specialists
  • Maintain reliable development and live environments
  • Partner with developers, designers, and other disciplines to develop technical solutions
  • Take part in playtests
  • Diagnose issues in development and live environments
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities
  • Adapt to changing priorities across feature delivery, infrastructure, troubleshooting, and technical challenges

Requirements

  • Substantial professional experience developing and operating backend services
  • Experience in gaming, especially live games or LiveOps environments, is highly relevant
  • Fluency in Java and/or Kotlin
  • Ability to design and develop robust backend systems
  • Experience making decisions quickly and adapting existing systems as requirements evolve
  • Practical experience with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS
  • Ability to own and maintain cloud environments through infrastructure-as-code
  • Experience diagnosing production issues
  • Willingness to participate in on-call responsibilities
  • Ability to address urgent issues while pursuing longer-term improvements
  • Self-directed approach combined with collaborative working style
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain technical decisions
  • Comfort working with colleagues across disciplines
