Senior Appian Data Architect (Remote)

Lead data architecture for Appian-based solutions supporting Groundswell’s federal technology programs. Shape data models, integrations, governance, databases, and performance across complex enterprise systems.

Description

  • Own scalable data architectures for complex enterprise applications and business workflows
  • Create conceptual, logical, and physical models covering structures, relationships, schemas, and standards
  • Architect Appian data stores, record types, synchronization processes, and connections to external sources
  • Define how information is stored, accessed, integrated, and exchanged between Appian and external systems of record
  • Build and tune relational database solutions, including sophisticated SQL queries
  • Work with Appian architects, developers, and integration specialists to resolve challenging architecture decisions
  • Review current data structures and recommend changes that improve scale, speed, maintainability, and quality
  • Develop integrations through APIs, web services, and established enterprise integration patterns
  • Set and champion practices for data integrity, security, access management, metadata, and governance
  • Investigate and resolve difficult application, database, integration, and performance problems
  • Contribute to architecture and technical reviews while maintaining alignment with program and federal technology standards
  • Advise and mentor development teams as the data architecture and Appian data solutions subject matter expert
  • Engage federal client stakeholders to clarify needs, assess technical approaches, and present architecture recommendations

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in software development, application architecture, data architecture, database engineering, or a related technical field
  • Substantial experience architecting data solutions for complex enterprise applications
  • Advanced knowledge of relational databases, SQL, data modeling, database design, and performance tuning
  • Background integrating enterprise applications with external data sources through APIs, web services, or similar technologies
  • Experience with Appian or a comparable low-code, BPM, or case management platform
  • Strong grasp of how application architecture, data design, integrations, and system performance interact
  • Proven ability to diagnose and fix complex issues spanning applications, databases, and integrations
  • Ability to turn business and functional needs into scalable technical and data architecture
  • Clear communicator who can collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior client leaders
  • Experience leading technical work, facilitating design reviews, and mentoring developers or engineers
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Ability to obtain and retain any federal clearance or background investigation required for the assigned engagement
  • Federal program experience or work in another large, complex enterprise environment is preferred
  • Advanced Appian expertise spanning application and data architecture, record types, data stores, integrations, and platform performance is preferred
  • Experience with Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or another enterprise relational database platform is preferred
  • Experience with PL/SQL and complex database development is preferred
  • Experience supporting large-scale workflow, case management, or business process management systems is preferred
  • Experience in DHS or another federal civilian agency environment is preferred
  • Appian certification or comparable demonstrated Appian expertise is preferred
