Senior Android Software Engineer - Walmart, Sunnyvale Onsite

Lead Android engineering for Walmart’s consumer retail platform in Sunnyvale. Build Kotlin and Java applications, resolve production issues, and guide high-priority mobile initiatives.

Description

  • Investigate production and business-critical mobile issues by assessing impact, severity, and root cause
  • Work with support and engineering partners to resolve incidents and complete post-incident reviews
  • Create and deliver mobile solutions that support business goals
  • Assess technical opportunities, industry practices, and emerging technologies
  • Lead high-priority initiatives from initial concept through delivery
  • Build and maintain scalable Android applications with Java and Kotlin
  • Turn product and design specifications into polished, user-friendly interfaces
  • Establish effective testing approaches and deliver work on schedule
  • Work with product managers, designers, and engineers to define requirements, evaluate risks, report progress, and remove blockers
  • Provide technical direction by clearing delivery obstacles and establishing performance expectations
  • Continue developing technical knowledge and adjust plans as priorities change
  • Follow company policies, engineering standards, and ethical guidelines
  • Coach colleagues while encouraging accountability and teamwork
  • Review engineering workflows to uncover efficiency and cost-saving opportunities
  • Use stakeholder input to strengthen engineering execution

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least six years of professional software development experience spanning mobile, web front-end, and backend systems, including recent hands-on coding
  • Experience developing consumer mobile applications, ideally for eCommerce, digital platforms, or other large-scale consumer products
  • Strong background building scalable backend systems and platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to design and develop advanced Android applications
  • Ability to collaborate across functions to define, design, and deliver new features
  • Proficiency with Kotlin and Java for Android development
  • Experience converting wireframes and design specifications into pixel-accurate user interfaces
  • Knowledge of Android animations, transitions, and current UI practices
  • Practical experience with the Android SDK, services, and background processing
  • Experience retrieving remote data through REST APIs, JSON, HTTP, and messaging frameworks
  • Familiarity with Google Play services such as Maps, Location, and Cloud Messaging
  • Experience incorporating third-party libraries and APIs
  • Ability to diagnose memory and performance problems with DDMS, MAT, or comparable tools
  • Strong knowledge of the mobile development lifecycle and object-oriented design
  • Experience with MVVM, Clean Architecture, ViewModels, Repository patterns, Coroutines, and other modern Android architectures
  • Experience using GraphQL and orchestration layers
  • Alternative minimum qualification: a bachelor's degree in a specified technical field plus three years of software engineering or related experience, or five years of software engineering or related experience
