Senior Accountant in Malta (Hybrid)

Senior Accountant responsible for client portfolios, VAT filings, bookkeeping, and management accounts at an MFSA-authorised corporate services provider in Malta. The role includes supervising accounting staff and working with auditors and senior management.

Description

  • Lead the accounting department’s daily operations and coordinate workflow
  • Review and supervise work completed by Accounts Executives and junior team members
  • Track assignments to keep deliverables on schedule
  • Apply and reinforce established accounting policies and procedures
  • Serve as the primary contact for auditors and respond efficiently to client enquiries
  • Assist senior management with requested work and escalate issues when appropriate
  • Prepare and file VAT returns and year-end management accounts
  • Keep clients’ monthly bookkeeping records complete, accurate, and current
  • Oversee an assigned portfolio of clients

Requirements

  • Hold a full professional accounting qualification
  • Have a University of Malta bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting, ACCA qualification, or an equivalent credential
  • Possess a Maltese VAT qualification from an established professional institution in Malta; this is mandatory
  • Bring at least two years of client accounting experience in Malta
  • Use English fluently at C2 or native level in written and spoken communication
  • Italian language skills are an advantage
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of GAPSME and IFRS
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Handle confidential information responsibly and remain effective under pressure
  • Show exceptional accuracy and time management
  • Bring strong prioritisation and organisational abilities
  • Already be based in Malta; applications from elsewhere cannot be considered
