Principal Human Factors Engineer - San Diego, CA (On-Site)

Principal Human Factors Engineer supporting UX verification, MIL-STD-1472 compliance, human factors analysis, and airworthiness activities for Northrop Grumman aerospace systems. Full-time, on-site role in California.

Description

  • Coordinate UX requirement verification through evaluations, testing, and demonstrations
  • Assess requirements using human factors practices and applicable MIL-STD-1472 sections
  • Perform task, workload, usability, and situation-awareness analyses and surveys
  • Plan, conduct, document, and present user-centered design events, including Design Thinking Workshops and Operator-in-the-Loop evaluations
  • Develop and support Human Factors Engineering documentation aligned with U.S. military data item descriptions
  • Partner with Design Integrated Product Teams to align evolving designs with program and human interface requirements
  • Evaluate proposed system-discrepancy workarounds from an operator perspective
  • Support airworthiness analyses, artifact development, and compliance summaries

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 5 years of experience in a human factors-related field, or a master's degree with 3 years of related experience, or a PhD with 1 year of related engineering experience
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1472, human factors survey development, test procedure development and execution, or test report writing
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced environment

  • Effective communication skills
  • Active U.S. government Top Secret clearance, with a background investigation completed within the past 5 years or enrollment in Continuous Evaluation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Access Program access through a Program Access Request before employment begins
  • Ability to obtain and maintain subsequent Special Access Program Program Access Requests after employment begins
  • Current applicable Special Access Program clearance preferred
  • Active U.S. government Top Secret SCI clearance preferred
  • STEM discipline and related engineering experience preferred
  • Military flight experience preferred
  • U.S. citizenship required for positions involving a government clearance
