Lab Automation Software Engineer — San Francisco Hybrid

Build Python software, robotic workflows, and LIMS integrations for Plasmidsaurus’s high-throughput genomic sequencing operations. Develop automation that helps biotech researchers process samples and reach answers faster.

Description

  • Coordinate and monitor an expanding fleet of laboratory robots
  • Develop agentic tools that connect research and development with lab automation
  • Build production-grade Python software integrating laboratory hardware with custom LIMS and data pipelines
  • Partner with scientists and technicians to create reliable, high-throughput sample-processing workflows
  • Develop laboratory automation systems for a biotechnology sequencing company
  • Own projects independently from initial concept through production deployment
  • Help scientists accelerate research supporting progress in medicine, biotechnology, and plant-based meat

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in computer science, robotics, biology, or equivalent professional experience
  • At least 3 years of Python programming experience
  • At least 3 years working with modern web frameworks such as Flask or Django
  • At least 1 year of laboratory experience and familiarity with molecular biology protocols
  • At least 1 year automating, optimizing, and scaling laboratory procedures with liquid-handling systems and laboratory robotics
  • Experience orchestrating and deploying software across multiple field devices using tools such as Docker and Ansible
  • Experience with cloud platforms and infrastructure as code, including AWS and Terraform
  • Experience creating and maintaining quality assurance, telemetry, and monitoring systems for physical hardware fleets
  • Experience administering or working with Linux servers
  • Experience with basic computer vision, such as OpenCV
  • Experience with 3D printing and basic CAD modeling is preferred
  • Some experience with C# and .NET frameworks for scripting laboratory automation equipment is preferred
  • Interest in biotechnology and DNA sequence analysis is preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
