Junior Roadway Engineer Richmond Virginia

Moffatt & Nichol is seeking a junior roadway engineer in Richmond, Virginia, to support highway, roadway, drainage, pedestrian, and other transportation projects. The role includes preparing designs, plans, estimates, specifications, reports, and permitting materials under licensed engineers.

Description

  • Apply established civil engineering principles and practices
  • Build effective working relationships and contribute as part of a team
  • Prepare project designs, plans, quantities, cost estimates, and specifications under the direction of licensed engineers
  • Design and document minor and major roadway projects
  • Prepare designs and documents for sidewalks and shoulder improvements
  • Complete drainage design work
  • Support project managers with plan preparation
  • Assist in developing cost estimates
  • Contribute to technical report writing
  • Support client coordination activities
  • Assist with permitting processes
  • Participate in integrated design teams and national workshare initiatives
  • Contribute to DOT highway designs, county and city roadway improvements, bike paths, pedestrian walkways, heavy rail, and other transportation projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
  • Two to five years of experience with an engineering consulting firm
  • Professional experience in transportation roadway design
  • State Department of Transportation project experience is preferred
  • Professional experience using MicroStation
  • Experience with AutoCAD and other computer-aided design platforms
  • Experience using Civil 3D
  • Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills
  • Ability to complete and pass a post-offer pre-employment background check in accordance with NIST 800-171
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States and provide required documentation at hire
  • Ability to remain sedentary for extended periods, interact with clients, and travel occasionally
