Governor's Honors Program Counselor — Statesboro, GA (On-Site)

Support gifted high school students during Georgia’s four-week residential Governor’s Honors Program at Georgia Southern University. Provide counseling, crisis intervention, on-call coverage, and weekday instruction in an elective subject.

Description

  • Counsel gifted and talented high school students
  • Conduct initial assessments and provide individual and group counseling
  • Deliver crisis intervention and on-call support as required
  • Teach an elective subject Monday through Friday
  • Develop unit plans, syllabi, and course overviews
  • Keep attendance records accurate and up to date
  • Join the 24/7 rotating call schedule throughout the program
  • Complete paid virtual training for new and returning staff
  • Attend staff orientation before the summer session
  • Work with staff from discipline-specific departments
  • Support directed activities outside regular class hours
  • Carry out additional Governor’s Honors Program assignments

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work, or
  • Master’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university plus three years of directly related experience, or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus five years of directly related experience
  • Relevant experience in case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, clinical psychosocial therapy, and treatment planning
  • Substantial experience counseling gifted secondary students preferred
  • Experience providing challenging, differentiated instruction to diverse learners preferred
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills preferred
  • High professional integrity preferred
  • Willingness to participate in coaching and professional development opportunities preferred
