Engineering Manager (Worldwide Remote)

Lead remote engineering teams building pharmacy, clinic, and patient-program technology for Maisha Meds. Oversee technical delivery for a healthcare platform serving communities across Africa.

Description

  • Lead a remote team of 3–6 engineers across multiple projects
  • Initially oversee the patient programs team, with plans to establish a new team for future projects
  • Build and maintain a welcoming, collaborative team culture
  • Mentor engineers and support their professional development goals
  • Deliver performance feedback and coaching
  • Recruit and hire engineers as needed
  • Provide hands-on leadership across architecture, design, code reviews, and incident management
  • Contribute independently to projects for approximately 20% of your time
  • Work directly with stakeholders and take on product management responsibilities when needed
  • Turn unclear stakeholder needs into defined requirements and actionable plans
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver projects
  • Understand customers and users to help shape product direction
  • Report to the Chief Technology Officer

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring engineers
  • Experience leading technical work across architecture, design, code reviews, and incident management
  • Ability to make independent technical contributions for approximately 20% of project time
  • Ruby on Rails experience is preferred
  • DevOps experience with AWS infrastructure is preferred
  • Experience in both startup and mature technology environments is a plus
  • Experience working in B2B and B2C environments is a plus
  • Healthcare or Africa experience is a plus
  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, Vue.js, and Android Kotlin
  • Ability to turn ambiguous stakeholder needs into clear requirements and actionable plans
  • Ability to understand customers and users and contribute to product direction
