Embedded Software Engineer — Los Angeles Hybrid

Build and troubleshoot embedded Linux, firmware, drivers, and hardware integrations for Observable Space’s space technology platforms. Contribute to telescopes, sensors, and on-orbit computing systems.

Description

  • Develop, test, and debug embedded Linux systems and low-level firmware, including daemons, drivers, bootloaders, and control loops
  • Develop and maintain drivers for PCIe, SPI, I2C, UART, MIPI CSI-2, and GPIO interfaces
  • Bring up cameras, sensors, and communications peripherals across hardware and software systems
  • Assemble first-article prototypes, solder and wire components, and complete initial power-on checks with electrical engineers
  • Lead component characterization campaigns from test-rig setup through execution and results documentation
  • Support longevity testing and examine data to identify emerging issues
  • Contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and engineering discussions
  • Develop systems for robotic ground telescopes and on-orbit computing platforms
  • Report to the Embedded Engineering Lead

Requirements

  • At least three years of experience in embedded software engineering, systems-level development, or a related internship or academic setting
  • Proficiency in C and C++
  • Working knowledge of DC power systems, motor drivers, and interfaces including I2C, SPI, CAN, Ethernet, MIPI, and PCIe
  • Ability to interpret schematics and troubleshoot issues at the electrical-software boundary
  • Familiarity with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, multimeters, and power-debugging equipment
  • Experience working in rapid prototyping environments
  • Strong product judgment focused on manufacturing reliability, robustness, and long-term serviceability
  • Willingness to work in the West Los Angeles office at least three days per week
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States; visa sponsorship eligibility is evaluated during the application process
