Database Administrator II – Virginia Remote

Maintain secure, dependable cloud databases that support DHS CISA mission applications. Oversee performance, access controls, backups, recovery, patching, and vulnerability remediation.

Description

  • Oversee and monitor mission application databases and related cloud services
  • Maintain database performance, availability, and secure operation
  • Carry out preventive, corrective, and perfective database maintenance
  • Diagnose database outages and legacy application integration problems
  • Plan, test, and implement approved patches, upgrades, configuration changes, and emergency fixes
  • Help remediate critical and high-severity database vulnerabilities within CISA-defined timelines
  • Maintain database backups and recovery processes
  • Verify restoration procedures and support data loss prevention planning
  • Administer database access and approved configurations with system owners and security staff
  • Support data ingestion and resolve data integrity, protection, and operational issues with data owners and stewards
  • Track utilization and capacity, tune performance, and optimize cloud resources
  • Maintain maintenance logs, configuration records, SOPs, and security authorization documentation
  • Supply inputs for monthly scanning and reporting
  • Coordinate changes, application deployment support, monitoring and alerting, licensing inputs, and operational knowledge transfer with the CISA Technology Operations Center
  • Complete other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Two to four years of relevant database administration experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, information technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience with SQL, database configuration, performance monitoring and tuning, access controls, backups, and recovery procedures
  • Experience troubleshooting application and database integration issues and supporting upgrades, patching, and approved configuration changes
  • Knowledge of data ingestion, data integrity validation, information protection, and cloud database operations
  • Ability to maintain operational documentation and collaborate with developers, data stewards, system administrators, and security personnel
  • Ability to meet required Government background investigation, system access, nondisclosure, and sensitive-information protection requirements
  • Successful completion of the required DHS/CISA background investigation
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable DHS suitability or fitness determination through Public Trust
  • Ability to maintain required system access
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Ability to meet DHS/CISA personnel and system access requirements
  • Relevant database administration or cloud database certification preferred
