Data Analyst - SQL and Power BI | Chicago Housing Authority

The Chicago Housing Authority is seeking a Data Analyst to develop SQL, SSRS, and Power BI reporting. The role builds data models, dashboards, and automated reporting solutions for authority departments.

Description

  • Turn data into comprehensive reports and accessible information for authority departments
  • Analyze complex data systems and document data elements, flows, relationships, and dependencies
  • Create and refactor SQL stored procedures
  • Improve internal SQL scripts through performance tuning
  • Modify SQL Open Queries for ySQL, Yardi’s internal scripting environment
  • Administer and maintain the FreshService ticketing system
  • Update SSRS paginated reports, including data sources and datasets through stored procedures
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy Power BI reports for development and administration
  • Build reusable, automated database extraction routines with documented business logic, dependencies, and source control
  • Create and maintain Power BI Server semantic models and architecture
  • Apply measures, calculated columns, variables, and optimization methods
  • Use DAX and Power Query to model fact and dimension tables
  • Produce detailed reports with Power BI, Crystal Reports, SSRS, and SQL
  • Translate business requirements into corresponding data models
  • Develop, publish, and schedule Power BI reports
  • Connect to data sources and import and transform information into Business Intelligence visuals and reports
  • Embed Power BI reports in other applications through embedded analytics, Power BI service, or API automation
  • Create custom Power BI visuals and implement row-level and application security models
  • Work with business analysts, application architects, and developers on data transaction and warehousing systems
  • Conduct data gathering, cleaning, prototyping, design, and requirements analysis
  • Handle other assigned duties and projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related discipline
  • At least five years of hands-on experience with SSMS, SSRS, and Power BI
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL development and underlying data structures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Familiarity with SQL stored procedures or equivalent database query languages
  • Ability to collaborate with management, users, peers, and stakeholders on report, user, technical, solution design, architecture, and delivery requirements under CHA reporting specifications
  • Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Strong organization and documentation abilities
  • Ability to communicate with developers, management, and ITS personnel and explain technical concepts to audiences with varied technical backgrounds
  • Advanced complex and quantitative problem-solving ability
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Thorough understanding of relational database theory and practice
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with data systems teams
  • Tableau and GIS experience is a plus
  • Interest in learning Yardi Reporting
