Civil Structural Engineer II – Onsite

Design substation foundations, steel structures, and electrical layouts as a Civil Structural Engineer II at Qualus. Support utility and renewable energy projects through engineering design, cost and schedule development, and QA/QC.

Description

  • Design and detail mat and pier foundations for substation structures
  • Engineer substation structures ranging from equipment supports to overhead line towers
  • Deliver work that meets client requirements, quality standards, and project cost objectives
  • Prepare substation design packages, including general arrangements, equipment and electrical layouts, elevations, grading and fencing plans, foundation details, rigid bus arrangements, structural details, and bills of material
  • Create conceptual design plans during the early development of new projects
  • Provide renewable energy developers and other clients with schedule and cost support
  • Design foundations with commercially available engineering software, including LPILE
  • Build steel structure models for rigid bus and equipment supports
  • Execute company QA/QC procedures
  • Build and sustain professional relationships with external business partners
  • Present technical information and address client questions
  • Attend client meetings and site visits to gather or provide design and engineering information
  • Guide less experienced staff in technical work and project management
  • Collaborate with engineers across other disciplines

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
  • Two to four years of experience in civil or structural engineering design calculations, or relevant MS/PhD-level higher education
  • Proficiency with drafting tools such as AutoCAD; MicroStation experience is a plus
  • Experience with transmission, distribution, or generating-station projects is a plus
  • Strong analytical and computer skills
  • Ability to select appropriate software for required design work
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
