Associate General Counsel, Privacy

Advise TIAA on privacy, cybersecurity, and data protection across products and emerging technologies, including AI. The role also supports privacy governance, incident response, and commercial negotiations.

Description

  • Safeguard the organization’s legal interests in contract negotiations, settlements, and litigation.
  • Assess legal risks and recommend appropriate responses.
  • Research and interpret proposed and current laws, statutes, and regulations.
  • Advise management on legal and regulatory developments that affect the company.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel on complex legal matters.
  • Guide teams on domestic and international privacy and cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Integrate privacy-by-design into new products, services, and digital experiences.
  • Counsel on privacy and data protection issues involving AI, quantum computing, and other emerging technologies.
  • Work with Risk and Compliance to build governance frameworks and enterprise policies.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity governance and privacy incident response, including investigation, containment, and notification.
  • Negotiate privacy and cybersecurity safeguards in vendor and strategic partnership agreements.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree required.
  • At least 5 years of experience in privacy, data protection, or cybersecurity law.
  • Experience advising on privacy compliance, product counseling, and commercial negotiations.
  • At least 7 years of experience in privacy, data protection, or cybersecurity law preferred.
  • Experience advising on privacy and data protection for AI and emerging technologies preferred.
  • Experience with cybersecurity governance or privacy incident response preferred.
  • Financial services, fintech, or other regulated industry experience preferred.
  • CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or another IAPP privacy certification preferred.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements of sedentary work.
