Architecture Intern — Remote, United States

Support TESSERE’s building-design projects as an architecture intern focused on construction documents, design coordination, code research, permitting, Revit, and project documentation.

Description

  • Work under the guidance of a senior architectural professional and incorporate detailed feedback
  • Prepare construction drawings, primarily for construction-documentation deliverables
  • Support design and coordination tasks across project phases as skills and responsibilities develop
  • Pursue NCARB registration and document performance according to AXP requirements
  • Research and record applicable project code requirements
  • Support basic design schedules and schematic development
  • Research, analyze, and prepare assigned sheets for construction drawing sets
  • Compare material selections with scope, quantities, and costs, then prepare related specifications
  • Attend code-official meetings and revise designs to meet compliance requirements
  • Support clients and provide guidance on securing required approvals and permits
  • Prepare elevation drawings and material schedules
  • Update all relevant drawings to reflect design, material, and detail revisions made during construction documentation
  • Review work for completeness and accuracy before delivering it to the project team
  • Research and apply progressively more complex architectural details, codes, and construction methods
  • May take full responsibility for all phases of a small, limited-complexity project

Requirements

  • One to two years of experience in an architectural setting is preferred
  • Four-year architecture degree from an NAAB-accredited program
  • Successful completion of a Revit proficiency assessment
  • Academic portfolio
  • Some experience in the building environment is preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
  • Working knowledge of ICBO and the International Building Code, along with awareness of federal, state, and local codes
  • Knowledge of building materials and construction practices
  • Understanding of the planning and design process
  • Knowledge of engineering systems used in the built environment
  • Awareness of potential environmental hazards associated with project sites
  • Proficiency in the current version of Revit or AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of mathematical and engineering formulas for determining space dimensions and calculating selected material quantities
  • Ability to produce architectural lettering by hand
  • Ability to create rough renderings and quick hand sketches
  • Ability to navigate uneven terrain, climb steps or ladders, and tolerate airborne environmental nuisances at construction sites
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to visually survey, measure, and assess project sites, site elements, and work under construction
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace
