Database Administrator – SQL Server and Azure (Hybrid, Ohio)
Manage enterprise SQL Server and Azure database environments supporting Ohio’s corrections department. Lead performance tuning, high availability and disaster recovery, security, automation, and developer support.

- Administer, patch, upgrade, and maintain SQL Server instances across production, staging, and development environments
- Track database performance, system health, and resource usage while applying optimization improvements
- Design, implement, and validate backup, recovery, high-availability, and disaster-recovery solutions
- Manage Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server deployments on Azure virtual machines
- Implement Azure database capabilities for backup, monitoring, security, migration, and disaster recovery
- Use Azure Monitor and Log Analytics to monitor databases and investigate issues
- Administer database security through RBAC, permissions, encryption, and Azure Key Vault credential management
- Advise developers on schemas, table structures, data types, stored procedures, triggers, functions, and complex queries
- Build automation scripts for index maintenance, integrity validation, statistics updates, backups, monitoring, and reporting
- Deliver Tier III support for high-impact database incidents
- Shape database strategies and support solution architecture and business-case development
- Maintain technical documentation for installation, monitoring, security, configuration, migration, and operational best practices
- Coach junior team members and provide technical direction
- Partner with IT Architecture, the CIO, IT managers, and security teams to satisfy agency requirements
आवश्यकताएँ
- At least five years of hands-on experience managing enterprise Microsoft SQL Server environments
- Strong command of SQL Server Management Studio and database internals
- Advanced proficiency with T-SQL
- Experience monitoring and tuning performance, including indexes, query optimization, blocking, and deadlock resolution
- Hands-on experience with backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery
- Experience with Always On Availability Groups, Log Shipping, Failover Cluster Instances, or Replication
- Strong background in database security and compliance, including RBAC, permissions, encryption, and access management
- Experience supporting Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure virtual machines
- Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Backup, and Azure RBAC
- Experience migrating and integrating databases between on-premises SQL Server and Azure
- Experience developing SSIS and ETL workflows
- Strong developer-support and code-review experience with stored procedures, triggers, functions, and complex T-SQL
- Scripting experience using T-SQL, PowerShell, or command-line tools
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- United States work authorization is required
- Willingness to begin remotely and later work onsite in Columbus, Ohio
