Senior NETA Field Service Technician in Iowa On-Site

Shermco Industries is hiring a senior NETA field service technician to test and troubleshoot industrial electrical power systems. The role involves customer-site travel across Iowa and nearby states for commissioning, calibration, and emergency response.

Tavsif

  • Travel to industrial and commercial customer sites
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up procedures, and collect data on low-, medium-, and high-voltage electrical systems ranging from 480 volts to 600 kV
  • Conduct instrument transformer testing
  • Test power transformers using Doble, TTR, and insulation resistance methods
  • Test electromechanical and solid-state relays
  • Conduct cable testing using Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, and DC Hipot methods
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches
  • Test low-, medium-, and high-voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
  • Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering
  • Participate in rotating emergency on-call coverage and respond promptly to customer emergencies

Talablar

  • An associate degree from an accredited two-year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls or an EE degree from an ABET-accredited college is preferred
  • Comparable military training and experience, such as Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or Navy Seabee service
  • NETA Level III or IV certification or equivalent is preferred; an electrician license is also preferred
  • At least five years of relevant experience testing and troubleshooting switchgear
  • Strong PC skills, including email, internet use, data entry, and Microsoft Excel; PowerDB experience is advantageous
  • Ability to work safely and follow all electrical safety procedures
  • OSHA 30-hour, MSHA, NFPA 70E, CPR, First Aid, BBP, and AED training is preferred
  • Ability to drive locally and regionally each day and travel overnight periodically
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic unannounced random drug tests
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check
  • Ability to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 100 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Ability to pass a fit-for-duty physical examination
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain a good driving record
  • Availability for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel
  • A U.S. passport and TWIC card are advantageous
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, and occasional weekends, holidays, and nights
  • Authorization to work in the United States without employer-sponsored visa support
  • Willingness to travel
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English
