- Lead a team responsible for developing the outreach component of the communications strategy.
- Build and strengthen relationships with government, interfaith, community, and media leaders.
- Connect influential voices with Church leaders in support of organizational priorities.
- Create and prioritize key contact lists across the area.
- Oversee training and support for national and local communication councils and volunteers.
- Secure permissions for visits with heads of state.
- Track and report religious freedom and legislative issues.
- Identify influential voices for religious freedom symposia.
- Plan religious freedom events and other relevant gatherings.
- Coordinate government relations and communications initiatives.
- Work with international government relations teams and global area offices.
- Prepare talking points for outreach visits and diplomatic meetings.
- Log diplomatic outreach and other interactions in the Connect customer relations database.
- Build relationships with key media contacts and support the sharing of Church messages.
- Train communication councils and Church leaders in media relations and spokesperson skills.
- Keep messaging aligned with Church headquarters on global issues.
- Travel regularly, including monthly trips to the Canada Area Office, as needed to Ottawa, and occasionally to Church Headquarters in Salt Lake City.
Zahteve
- Hold a bachelor's degree in communications or a related field, or equivalent experience; relevant experience may substitute for education.
- A master's degree is preferred.
- Have at least seven years of experience.
- Have at least two years of people-management experience.
- Demonstrate experience developing, designing, and delivering strategic outreach plans.
- Understand religious freedom and related legislative issues.
- Have a strong understanding of Canada's political system and organizations.
- Have experience building relationships with influential stakeholders.
- Bring extensive experience across a range of communication channels.
- Have a strong foundation in public relations and relationship building.
- Have experience applying research methods and strategies to practical problems.
- Write and edit English content to a high standard.
- Explain complex ideas clearly to leaders and communication teams.
- Think critically and solve problems effectively.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Use Microsoft Office and customer relationship management tools such as Salesforce competently.
- Be legally authorized to work in Canada without sponsorship.
- Reside in the Greater Toronto Area while employed.
- Be an endowed member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a current temple recommend.
- English and French bilingual skills are preferred.
- French language ability is preferred.
