Senior PHP Symfony Engineer (Pakistan, Remote)

Lead backend development for Smart Working’s enterprise marketing and revenue-data platform. Modernize Symfony, strengthen scalability, and collaborate across Angular, AI services, and DevOps.

Descriere

  • Lead backend delivery in the core Symfony application
  • Review and challenge code produced by engineers and AI tools
  • Support the migration from Symfony 6.1 to Symfony 7
  • Improve application performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Collaborate across Angular, TypeScript, Python AI-agent services, and DevOps
  • Understand and reason about the Angular and TypeScript codebase
  • Assess the system-wide impact of technical decisions
  • Find root causes and improve implementation strategies
  • Build maintainable solutions within a legacy codebase
  • Work independently and collaboratively in a remote, cross-functional squad
  • Uphold SOC 2, PII, and security controls

Cerințe

  • At least 8 years of commercial software engineering experience, including 5 or more years with PHP
  • At least 7 years of expert-level PHP experience
  • At least 3 years of recent advanced commercial experience with Symfony 6.x or 7; equivalent senior Laravel experience may be considered
  • At least 4 years of advanced backend system design and scalability experience
  • At least 2 years of advanced experience applying AI tools critically, including reviewing and challenging generated output
  • At least 5 years of advanced MySQL experience in schema design and query optimization; equivalent PostgreSQL or relational-database experience may be considered
  • At least 1 year of Angular or TypeScript familiarity; TypeScript experience with React or Vue may be considered, while no frontend exposure is disqualifying
  • At least 3 years of advanced automated testing experience with PHPUnit; Pest or an equivalent PHP testing framework may be considered
  • At least 1 year of intermediate experience upgrading frameworks and modernizing legacy code
  • At least 2 years of intermediate AWS experience; Azure or GCP experience may be considered
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a record of effective remote work
  • Availability to work UK hours
  • Ability to pass strict background checks and follow PII policies
  • Strong self-sufficiency, including the ability to work without close guidance after 2–3 months
  • A hands-on technical approach combined with an architect’s mindset
  • Respect for SOC 2, PII, and security controls
