Senior Android Developer (Remote, Canada)

Build AI-enabled Android apps for buyers and sellers in OPENLANE’s wholesale vehicle marketplace. Lead Kotlin architecture, feature delivery, testing, and production reliability.

Descriere

  • Build and scale OPENLANE’s marketplace mobile products.
  • Develop and ship Android features for buyers and sellers.
  • Set Android technical direction, including modular architecture, Compose and legacy UI integration, and shared platform concerns.
  • Improve quality through unit and UI tests, coverage, and CI checks.
  • Coordinate Google Play and Firebase distribution, along with release practices.
  • Use AI tools to speed up delivery and mentor intermediate engineers in sound technical judgment and craft.
  • Work with iOS to align product behavior across platforms.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, backend and platform engineers, QA, and the iOS team.
  • Report to the Mobile Engineering Manager.
  • Apply AI assistance to coding, refactoring, test generation, debugging, root-cause analysis, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
  • Build customer-facing wholesale marketplace apps for buyers and sellers.

Cerințe

  • At least five years of professional Android development experience, or equivalent depth.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin.
  • Experience developing and publishing Android apps on Google Play.
  • A track record of owning complex features and concerns that span multiple parts of a system.
  • An AI-first approach, with regular use of AI development tools and careful evaluation of their output.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience building and operating production mobile apps at scale.
  • Strong knowledge of architecture, concurrency, networking, offline and edge cases, and app performance.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD, code review, and production observability.
  • Ability to own features from design collaboration through release and follow-up.
  • Experience with AI development tools such as code copilots, AI debuggers, and test generators.
  • Experience using Kotlin for modern Android development.
  • Experience with multi-module Android applications.
  • Knowledge of dependency injection, coroutines, StateFlow or unidirectional UI, navigation, and WorkManager.
  • Experience with networking and persistence tools such as Retrofit or OkHttp and Room.
  • Familiarity with feature flags, experimentation, product analytics, and crash reporting.
  • Experience with camera, media, and device capabilities.
  • Preferred: Jetpack Compose experience in production at scale.
  • Preferred: Experience modernizing legacy Android apps.
  • Preferred: Experience with wholesale, marketplace, auction, or high-volume transactional mobile apps.
  • Preferred: Ability to review iOS or Swift pull requests and mentor others.
  • Preferred: Experience with BrowserStack or device-farm UI testing.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with hybrid WebView surfaces.
