Embedded Computing Research Engineer – Embedded Systems

Descriere

  • Create, implement, and validate edge and embedded software for industrial automation, networking, and enterprise platforms
  • Contribute to R&D initiatives by converting program requirements into embedded-system designs and implementation plans
  • Build firmware and application software in C/C++ and related languages for resource-constrained, real-time platforms
  • Design, run, and automate unit, integration, hardware-in-the-loop, and system-level testing
  • Help mature research prototypes and transition them into GE Vernova product platforms
  • Work with GE Vernova teams, suppliers, national laboratories, universities, government organizations, and strategic partners
  • Complete assigned program milestones
  • Prepare proposal content, technical reports, and program-review materials for internal leaders and government sponsors
  • Apply secure-by-design methods and cybersecurity practices across the embedded-software lifecycle
  • Develop technologies for GE Vernova’s Power, Wind, Electrification, and Grid Solutions businesses and U.S. Government agencies

Cerințe

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline
  • One to five years of relevant industry experience
  • At least one year of professional experience developing embedded systems, firmware, or edge software
  • Proficiency with C and/or C++ for embedded software development
  • Experience with microcontrollers, microprocessors, or system-on-chip platforms and interfaces including SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, or Ethernet
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, OPC UA, IEC 61850, MQTT, or BACnet
  • Familiarity with serialization formats such as Protocol Buffers or JSON
  • Ability to incorporate real-time analytics, anomaly detection, and secure data pipelines into edge and embedded applications
  • Experience developing on Linux or real-time operating systems
  • Experience throughout the embedded-systems lifecycle, from requirements and design through implementation, testing, and debugging
  • Willingness to work from GE Vernova’s office in Niskayuna, New York
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Successful completion of a drug screen, where applicable
  • Preferred: familiarity with industrial control systems, programmable logic controllers, or edge controllers
  • Preferred: experience with RTOS task scheduling, thread priorities, and strict timing requirements
  • Preferred: full-stack programming experience delivering edge-to-cloud solutions
  • Preferred: experience with real-time operating systems and/or bare-metal environments
  • Preferred: experience using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Preferred: knowledge of memory management and pointer manipulation
  • Preferred: knowledge of asymmetric and symmetric multiprocessing, virtual memory, and real-time considerations
  • Preferred: experience with Python or other scripting languages for test automation, build scripts, and rapid prototyping
  • Preferred: knowledge of embedded cybersecurity, secure boot, cryptographic primitives, IEC 62443, or NIST SP 800-82
  • Preferred: experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and C++ or Python for system-level services or embedded APIs
  • Preferred: experience with CI/CD platforms such as Jenkins and GitHub Actions
  • Preferred: familiarity with multithreaded applications and computer networking
  • Preferred: familiarity with Xilinx and/or Intel FPGA devices, tools, and ecosystems
  • Preferred: knowledge of digital logic design
  • Preferred: experience with high-speed and standard interfaces including UART, SPI, I²C, Ethernet, PCIe, or DDR
  • Preferred: experience creating testbenches and conducting functional verification
  • Preferred: knowledge of clock-domain crossing methods and metastability mitigation
  • Preferred: experience designing FPGA or ASIC hardware with Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL
  • Preferred: experience with FPGA design workflows including simulation, synthesis, place and route, static timing analysis, and timing closure
