Senior Software Engineer - Hybrid in Milwaukee

Join Crisis Prevention Institute as a Senior Software Engineer building its cloud-native learning platform with .NET, Azure, and React. Own product work from design and testing through deployment, operations, and continuous improvement.

Aprašymas

  • Work hands-on within a Product Engineering squad supporting CPI's Integrated Training and Learning (ITL) cloud-native platform
  • Create, test, deploy, and operate features across C#/.NET microservices, CQRS handlers, Azure Service Bus, Azure SQL, and React
  • Work with product and design partners to uncover customer needs, question assumptions, and develop straightforward solutions
  • Divide epics into independently deliverable increments and assess releases using real-world usage data
  • Develop automated unit, integration, and contract tests while sustaining observability with logs, metrics, and traces
  • Present finished work to business stakeholders and connect delivered functionality to customer and business value
  • Track dashboards and alerts, take part in on-call coverage, and troubleshoot production incidents
  • Join blameless incident reviews and lead follow-up improvements that reduce recurrence
  • Address technical debt, accelerate build and deployment workflows, and reduce unnecessary system complexity
  • Help separate ITL domain data from upstream enterprise systems
  • Build with secure coding practices and meet WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards
  • Use AI-supported tools for exploring designs, coding, testing, refactoring, and debugging while remaining accountable for quality, security, and correctness
  • Trial AI tools, evaluate their results, and communicate findings to the squad
  • Spot potential AI applications in the ITL product and internal tools, then develop proof-of-concept proposals
  • Explore unfamiliar systems, distribute knowledge through reviews and documentation, and conduct technical investigations
  • Exchange constructive code reviews, support developing engineers through mentorship, and participate in retrospectives
  • Complete additional duties related to the position as assigned

Reikalavimai

  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • At least five years of professional experience developing and operating production web applications and services
  • At least three years of hands-on C# and .NET experience, including ASP.NET Core and .NET 6+, for APIs and backend services
  • Background building and supporting distributed, event-driven systems with message brokers such as Azure Service Bus and asynchronous processing
  • Experience with CQRS, domain-driven design, or comparable approaches that distinguish read and write operations and explicitly model business domains
  • Experience delivering React front-end functionality using hooks, state management, component design, and modern JavaScript or TypeScript
  • Experience designing relational schemas and writing efficient SQL for SQL Server or Azure SQL
  • Experience deploying and running services on Azure, including App Service, Functions, Service Bus, Azure SQL, and Azure Monitor or Application Insights, or on an equivalent cloud platform
  • Experience with automated unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end testing, along with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
  • Experience on agile teams practicing continuous delivery through small batches, trunk-based development or short-lived branches, feature flags, and frequent production releases
  • Understanding of REST API design, authentication and authorization approaches, and security-focused design patterns
  • Understanding of observability through structured logs, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerting
  • Experience incorporating AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Cursor into daily engineering work
  • Evidence of annual professional development through an accredited software engineering course, relevant certification, or a completed learning project presented to the team
  • Ability to turn an unclear product challenge into a well-designed, tested, and shipped solution with limited supervision
  • Ability to explain technical trade-offs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to exchange candid, respectful feedback, disagree constructively, and support agreed team decisions
  • Ability to balance competing priorities and deliver the strongest feasible outcomes for the organization
  • Demonstrated curiosity, ownership, initiative, experimentation, resilience after failure, learning, and continuous improvement
