Mechanical and Structural Engineer

Support the safe, reliable operation of AEP energy infrastructure through mechanical and structural engineering analysis, project planning, and technical reporting. Coordinate project work, solve engineering problems, and guide junior employees.

  • Deliver intermediate-level mechanical and structural engineering projects.
  • Apply engineering expertise to meet objectives safely, effectively, efficiently, and economically.
  • Carry out varied engineering assignments and detailed analyses.
  • Coordinate activities across work groups, departments, and corporate entities.
  • Complete routine engineering work with minimal direction.
  • Train and guide less experienced employees.
  • Coordinate inputs for routine project cost forecasts and improvement requests.
  • Use CPM, PERT, flow charts, and other scheduling methods for budgeting and planning.
  • Take corrective action when project objectives are not being met.
  • Address routine engineering problems and flag issues outside the normal scope.
  • Prepare, review, and present technical reports, studies, and analyses.
  • Work with stakeholders to build consensus and resolve conflicts.
  • Make decisions affecting the team within established policies and procedures.
  • Apply economic analysis methods and build knowledge of utility regulation and financing.

Reikalavimai

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • At least two years of related engineering experience.
  • A master's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program may qualify candidates for entry at this level.
  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology may meet the degree requirement with a certified Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Alternatively, a non-ABET bachelor's degree in engineering plus a master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited bachelor's program.
  • Knowledge of engineering theory and analytical methods.
  • Ability to conduct moderately complex analyses and understand system and component relationships.
  • Ability to analyze business processes and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to use scheduling methods such as CPM, PERT, and flow charts.
  • Understanding of budgeting, approval processes, utility regulation, and financing.
  • Ability to prepare, review, and present technical reports.
  • Must comply with company policies and external agency regulations.
