Geomatics Officer, Archaeological Survey

Support Cotswold Archaeology’s digital survey work by maintaining data quality across field surveys, GIS and CAD workflows. The role also covers survey equipment, staff training and collaboration on complex projects.

Aprašymas

  • Plan and quality-check digital field surveys, from initial site data preparation and data capture through to final outputs.
  • Configure, maintain and secure field survey equipment.
  • Maintain the quality of field survey data and digitised records from creation through to final delivery.
  • Carry out field surveys and other on-site data collection when required.
  • Digitise drawn site records and process and present archaeological data using CAD, GIS or other geospatial software.
  • Use ESRI ArcGIS Pro to process and query data and publish GIS and web map services.
  • Help organise and deliver staff training programmes.
  • Arrange equipment hire, complete purchase orders and liaise with external hire companies.
  • Help allocate instruments to staff and projects.
  • Contribute to large and complex projects and their quality assurance.
  • Build effective working relationships with fieldwork, geomatics, support and administrative teams, and clients.
  • Apply organisational policies and meet fire, health and safety, and risk assessment requirements.

Reikalavimai

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in archaeology or a related subject.
  • Sufficient field archaeology experience on evaluations, watching briefs and excavations.
  • Strong understanding of archaeological survey principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of ESRI software, particularly proficiency with ArcGIS Pro.
  • Substantial experience conducting archaeological field surveys with GNSS and total station instruments, preferably Leica.
  • Experience handling and processing field survey data.
  • Ability to clearly describe observations and interpretations from archaeological survey work.
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, Excel and Access.
  • Commitment to professional archaeology standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability and willingness to work away from home, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Desirable: experience teaching, training or mentoring.
  • Desirable: experience contributing to project reports, publications, research or outreach projects.
  • Desirable: experience with photography and photogrammetry.
  • Desirable: experience surveying archaeological buildings and earthworks.
  • Desirable: ability to configure and troubleshoot Leica GNSS and total station instruments.
  • Desirable: experience with remote data capture systems, including terrestrial and airborne solutions.
  • Desirable: experience with JavaScript, Python, LISP and ModelBuilder.
  • Desirable: experience processing digitised and field survey data during post-excavation work.
  • Desirable: familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or other drawing software.
  • Desirable: CSCS card.
