Senior Structural Engineer, Bridge Focus – Moffatt & Nichol, Richmond VA

- Prepare engineering plans, technical specifications, and inspection documentation
- Design bridges, culverts, retaining structures, sound barriers, and related transportation infrastructure
- Apply quality-control practices while delivering assignments on schedule and within budget
- Investigate field conditions, perform inspections, develop detailed designs, and verify calculations to address engineering issues
- Manage designated technical components of project work
- Produce material quantity takeoffs and project cost estimates
- Direct assigned project activities through team coordination, scheduling, and supervision
- Partner with professionals from other disciplines on integrated project teams
- Communicate directly with clients in meetings, calls, and written correspondence
- Work mainly from the Richmond office and travel periodically to project sites

- A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field is required
- A master’s degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with a structural focus is preferred but optional
- At least 10 years of design experience involving bridges or marine structures
- Experience designing both bridge and marine structures is advantageous
- Professional Engineer registration is required
- Experience with VDOT or other Department of Transportation projects is preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Working knowledge of MathCAD is required
- Experience with MicroStation or AutoCAD is required
- Experience with STAAD is required
- Familiarity with SAP2000, CSiBridge, LARSA 4D, DESCUS, and Bentley LEAP Bridge Suite is preferred
- Must successfully complete a post-offer pre-employment background check compliant with NIST 800-171
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States and able to provide the required hiring documentation
- Must be able to traverse unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment during some site visits
