Manufacturing Process Engineer – Cylinder Machining

Manufacturing Process Engineer responsible for developing and launching machining systems for cylinder blocks and heads used in Ford vehicles. Coordinates suppliers, plants, tooling, quality, and production-readiness activities.

  • Develop and improve high-volume machining processes for cylinder blocks and cylinder heads
  • Assess product designs for manufacturability, process capability, tooling needs, and production feasibility
  • Work with Product Development to improve quality, labor efficiency, tooling costs, and facility requirements
  • Create and maintain process sheets, cycle data, equipment specifications, and line layouts
  • Establish requirements for fixtures, cutting tools, gauges, automation, inspection, material handling, and error-proofing
  • Oversee schedules for equipment and tooling design, procurement, construction, installation, and launch
  • Review supplier bids and assist with equipment and tooling procurement
  • Lead supplier buyoffs, equipment installation, start-up, commissioning, run-at-rate activities, and production readiness
  • Diagnose and resolve machining, product, tooling, quality, and launch problems
  • Use PFMEA, failure-mode avoidance, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and error-proofing techniques
  • Support process validation, capability studies, control plans, quality improvements, and corrective actions
  • Coordinate dimensional, functional, and leak-testing requirements
  • Capture lessons learned and apply preventive measures to future programs
  • Report project status, timing, cost, quality, risks, and launch readiness to stakeholders
  • Coordinate with Product Development, suppliers, Purchasing, Logistics, New Model Programs, and plant teams
  • Travel regularly each day to the Windsor Engine Plant

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical, or equivalent experience with at least five years
  • Knowledge of high-volume machining, preferably involving cylinder blocks and cylinder heads
  • Understanding of machining operations, cutting tools, fixtures, gauging, and process capability
  • Ability to assess product designs for manufacturability and production feasibility
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities under schedule constraints
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and 3D CAD review tools such as Teamcenter, VisMockup, or CATIA
  • Knowledge of PFMEA, failure-mode avoidance, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma
  • Willingness to travel, including extended assignments
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Automotive manufacturing, engine component manufacturing, or cylinder block and cylinder head machining experience preferred
  • Experience with milling, drilling, boring, tapping, honing, washing, deburring, leak testing, or inspection processes preferred
  • Experience with machining equipment, fixtures, cutting tools, automation, gauging, CMMs, or error-proofing preferred
  • Knowledge of GD&T, statistical process control, capability studies, and control charts preferred
  • Familiarity with Ford manufacturing systems, including AVBOM, WERS, GSPAS/APT, Teamcenter, E2KS, AIM, and CPARS preferred
  • Regular daily travel to the Windsor Engine Plant in Windsor, Ontario
