Substance Use Disorder Counselor and Therapist

Provide evidence-based individual and group care for substance use disorders at BrightView. Coordinate treatment, maintain clinical records, and support counselor development at the Dayton clinic.

Description

  • Lead therapy sessions for patients with substance use disorders, primarily working independently.
  • Plan and facilitate group therapy and conduct intake assessments according to clinic needs and evidence-based guidance.
  • Offer individual counseling when appropriate.
  • Contribute to treatment plans and track progress toward care goals.
  • Coordinate care with the clinic’s onsite multidisciplinary team.
  • Manage an assigned patient caseload.
  • Record treatment information promptly and thoroughly in the electronic health record.
  • Follow applicable regulatory standards and company compliance policies.
  • Participate in required onsite staff, supervision, and multidisciplinary meetings, as well as quarterly training sessions.
  • Train, onboard, and mentor newly hired counselors at the site or nearby clinics.

Requirements

  • Hold an active clinical license that meets state requirements and permits independent practice.
  • Earned a master’s degree.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills.
  • Show empathy and compassion when supporting patients through recovery.
  • Work effectively with colleagues and patients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare setting.
  • Adapt readily to changing workplace needs.
  • Use multiple systems for communication and clinical documentation with confidence.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools such as Outlook, Teams, and Word is preferred.
  • Demonstrate integrity and follow workplace and regulatory standards.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 is desired.
  • Experience with harm reduction is an advantage.
