  • Expand The Atlantic’s reporting on Hollywood and the wider entertainment industry
  • Cover Hollywood’s business operations and industry developments
  • Report on influential figures, industry disputes, controversies, legal conflicts, and behind-the-scenes changes
  • Make shifts across the culture industry accessible to readers
  • Produce scoops and timely analysis under tight deadlines
  • Develop deeply reported, longer-form stories for a broad audience
  • Find overlooked stories and select the most effective approach for telling them
  • Contribute to the Culture team as part of a close-knit collaborative group

Requirements

  • Substantial professional reporting experience
  • A track record of influencing discussion about culture and the culture industry
  • A strong magazine sensibility
  • Outstanding writing ability
  • Deep interest in ideas-driven journalism
  • Extremely high standards for clarity, accuracy, and journalistic rigor
  • A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for working on a close-knit team
  • Motivation to cover urgent and consequential stories as they develop
  • A nuanced understanding of how business, technology, and national politics shape the culture industry
  • Experience producing scoops, rapid analysis, and deeply reported features
  • Willingness and availability to work occasional nights, early mornings, and weekends
